Further adventures of Flat Andrew in Michigan!

Flat Andrew had a fun, snowy weekend in Michigan. 

He took a road trip to the city of Alpena which is on Lake Huron.  He explored the East Tawas Lighthouse and the Great Lakes Maritime Museum.   

Michigan is the Great Lakes State - it is surrounded by our 5 Great Lakes:  Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior   (H.O.M.E.S.).  Our great lakes are amazing. 

Visiting a great lake is like visiting the ocean without the saltwater.  The beaches are sandy, the waves can be crashing or calm and they are so big all you see is water.

The shore line around the state can be rocky and dangerous for ships.  Now ships use radar and satellites to keep them away from the rocky shores, but in times past those ships needed Lighthouses to warn them of dangerous areas.

He also stopped by the General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford Michigan near where the real Andrew's friend Stu Smith works.

Michigan is the car capitol of the world!  Henry Ford build his Model-T's here and the Ford family still owns and builds Fords here in Michigan.   Michigan is headquarters of General Motors, Ford and Chrysler car companies.  Flat Andrew visited the General Motors Proving Ground where the engineers from GM test cars and trucks that are being developed.  Top secret research goes on there so cameras are not allowed inside. 

Flat Mr. Knaus Goes to Morocco!

As a part of the same trip, Flat Mr. Knaus stowed away to Morocco.  He got up close and personal with some camels!

Flat Mr. Knaus Goes to France!

Flat Mr. Knaus hitched a ride with Elly's uncle when he went to France!  He got to go shopping

and ice skating!

(Don't worry - as soon as Flat Mr. Knaus gets back home, we'll rush him into emergency eye-replacement surgery.  We have a very good eye clinic here in Room 240...)

Flat Andrew goes to Michigan!

Today was Flat Andrew's first day with me (Tenely Smith) in Hartland, MI.

I took Flat Andrew to work with me at Barnes & Noble bookstore in Brighton, Michigan.  

Flat Andrew slid right into the shelf between some Flat Stanley books, 

played at our Thomas the Tank train table, and 

even helped me out at the cash register!

I hope Flat Andrew enjoys his visit with us, but we'd rather have the REAL Andrew here for a visit.  I guess that will have to wait until summer.

Flat Kathleen goes to Colorado!

Flat Kathleen went to Denver, Colorado to visit Round Kathleen's uncle Jim, who works at the Magnolia Hotel Downtown.  He got the VIP treatment from the get-go!

After Flat Kathleen got all checked in at the front desk, it was time to do some sightseeing.

She got to see the State Capitol building...

And decided to play in the snow, while she was at it.

It must have been a windy day - she got stuck in a tree outside the Convention Center!

Do Flat Friends need a ticket if they can sneak in in someone's pocket?

Flat Kathleen even went to church!

Flat Berik goes to North Carolina!

Flat Berik arrived in Charlotte, North Carolina just in time to join Helen, Annika, Isabella and Ingrid for swim team practice.

Flat Berik and cousin Thor head from the pool to the gym to shoot some hoops. Flat Berik will sleep well tonight!

This afternoon we are paraded though a bit of snow to the mailbox just up the street from Burroughs School.  Each student put his or her Flat counterpart into the mailbox, to send them off into the world for many adventures.
